Description
Hamadan rugs are village rugs woven in the Hamadan province of northwestern Iran. This region, which includes the famous rug-weaving village of Malayer and surrounding areas, reflects an overarching style of typically single-wefted rugs with wool pile and cotton foundations, known for their creative, dynamic patterns influenced by both city and tribal motifs, and sensitive color compositions. Like other northwestern Persian village styles, Hamadan rugs were originally created for use by the weaver’s family and as gifts for special occasions, selling only surplus in local markets. By the late 19th century, many weavers participated in cottage industries to sell their work to the flourishing international market. Pattern, color variation, and signs of wear with vintage items is normal. If you have specific questions about wear or colors, email hello[at]passerinehome[dot]com or call us to discuss this rug in more detail.
We recommend using rug pads to extend the life of all Passerine rugs. Add a custom-sized rug pad to your order using order add-on the drop down above.
